The AMI Accelerated Weight Loss Program (the "Program") is a medically supervised weight loss program that uses a hormone known as HCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) to assist with the dieting process. HCG is a hormone produced naturally by the placenta during pregnancy. HCG has been used since the 1940s to help stimulate weight loss. The HCG diet protocol was developed by Dr. A.T.W. Simeons. Since then, many physicians around the world have prescribed a weight loss program using HCG for their patients. It is safe and effective when medically supervised and has minimal, if any, side effects. HCG is reputed to facilitate weight loss in both men and women and to reduce the appetite, eliminate cravings for sweets, increase metabolism, increase libido, and prevent the body from burning lean muscle as fuel. It is believed that HCG targets a type of fat that is not effectively eliminated through conventional weight loss programs.
As a part of the program, a patient receives HCG via injections for a period of 21 to 42 days, depending on his or her personal weight loss goals. Experience has shown that the optimum results of the Program will be achieved after treatment with HCG for a time period of between 21 and 42 days.
During the period when HCG is administered, it is necessary to follow a 500 to 800 calorie a day diet and to drink a gallon of water per day. This very low calorie diet (VLCD) is believed to help trigger the HCG to use the most stubborn fat for the body's energy and nutrition needs. The patient will be provided with a list of allowed foods, suggested meal plans, a cookbook, supplements, and a food journal with which to make meal entries and calculate calories. This diet is simple and easy to follow.
Medical Supervision of the HCG Program
Dr. Mark Gunderson will medically supervise your program. He will meet with you at the start of the program. In order to optimize your results, the following diagnostic tests will be performed: full blood panel, DEXA scan for body composition, and a baseline hormone levels test. After completion of the Program, Dr. Gunderson will advise you as to how to optimize and maintain your weight through advice regarding age management, hormone replacement therapy and vitamin supplementation.
During the program, AMI staff will meet with you on a weekly basis. During these weekly visits, staff will review your progress and your diet journal. They will discuss any questions and concerns you may have concerning the program.
